North Suffolk center at capacity

A failing economy has not managed to get the better of Suffolk.
The incipient addition of Taylor’s Do-It-Center to the tenant list at Creekside Village shopping center on Bridge Road brings that center to 100-percent capacity.
“It’s a testament to the traffic and growing population in the Bennett’s Creek area,” Suffolk Director of Economics Kevin Hughes said. “It’s rewarding developers are seeing prospects in Suffolk and doing well. They go out on a limb by building it, but they’re able to fill those spaces.”
Founded in 1927, Taylor’s Do-It Center, a Hampton Roads-based hardware and garden center, has 10 existing locations.
The Suffolk location is expected to open in 90 days, Hughes estimated.
“We opened up the shopping center about a year ago,” Hughes said. “Considering we’re in a recession, we’ve filled it very quick.”
Taylor’s Do-It Center joins a variety of other businesses in the new part of the Creekside shopping center, including a nail salon, family medicine practice, pizza parlor, kitchen appliance store, a fitness store, tattoo parlor and coffee shop.
“A lot of credit goes to the developer and property owner,” Hughes said. “Something you don’t always see with a new shopping center is integrating small businesses and more established groups. That’s something they’ve done well here.”
