Snow causes changes to hoop, wrestling tourneys

Suffolk and Chesapeake school closures Thursday caused changes to the schedules for the playoff games ahead of the Southeastern District Boys Basketball Tournament and the Eastern Region Wrestling Tournament at Oscar Smith.

Tiebreaker games for the eighth and final seed into the basketball tournament have been pushed back a day.

Western Branch meets Grassfield at King’s Fork Friday at 7 p.m. The winner between the Bruins and Grizzlies gets Hickory Saturday at 7 p.m. at King’s Fork. The quarterfinals, with two games at Nansemond River and two games at King’s Fork, are still set for Monday evening.

The Eastern Region Wrestling Tournament originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday will now be held Saturday and Monday. The tournament will start Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oscar Smith. Monday’s schedule will start at 12 p.m. with the finals slated for 7 p.m.
