The Seven City Knights remained perfect while handing the East Kentucky Energy its first loss of the ABA (American Basketball Association) season with a 105-101 win at Churchland High School Saturday night.
The Knights trailed by two going to the fourth period before winning the last quarter 34-28. The Knights improve to 15-0 and are currently ranked No. 3 in this week’s ABA Power Rankings. The Energy was 12-0 and one spot ahead of the Knights in the national rankings going into Saturday.
Four former Lakeland players, Travis Klink, Jaleel Nelson, Eric Ruffin and John Lillard, play for the Knights.
Three of the 15 Seven City victories have come by forfeits but in the 12 on-court wins the Knights are averaging 124.7 points scored per game.
Saturday’s win was the second straight for the Knights over a previously-undefeated opponent. The Knights beat the Harrisville Wizards 160-108 on Jan. 29.
The Knights are behind only the No. 1 Southeast Texas Mavericks and the No. 2 Jacksonville Giants in the power rankings. The top 24 teams in the power rankings at the end of the regular season qualify for the ABA playoffs.
The Knights have a trying road trip coming up this weekend.
Seven City travels for a return game against the Energy in Bluefield, Ky. on Friday night. The Knights will be in East Orange, N.J. by Saturday evening to take on the New Jersey Express.
The next home date for the Knights is Saturday, Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at Churchland versus the New York Red Raiders.
