Members of eight congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Virginia and North Carolina, in partnership with FEMA and the North Carolina VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters), completed two days of service projects in January. This humanitarian service assisted families who suffered flood damage to their homes during the torrential downpours that occurred in several eastern North Carolina counties last October.

The church members collected more than 2,200 pounds of food, 122 boxes of bathroom toiletries, bedding for 42 families, towels and clothing were collected at the LDS Church building in Edenton, N.C. On Jan. 15, the items were delivered to more than 40 families living in Windsor, Williamston and Columbia, N.C.

The Bennett’s Creek Congregation in Suffolk participated in the service project.
