Driver store sets ‘book party’

A “book party” is planned for Arthur’s General Store in Driver for “Peninsula in Passage,” a project of Suffolk River Heritage.

That name for the event, between about 6 and 9 p.m. this Friday, “seems to resonate pretty much, so that’s what I’m calling it,” store owner Greg Parker said. “I don’t want it to sound like a scholarly event when it’s a community event.”

Parker encouraged folks who already have one to bring along their copy of the book: Phyllis Speidell, John Sheally and Karla Smith, who worked on it together, will be there to sign copies.

Many characters appearing in the book have been invited to attend the gathering, and coffee and hot chocolate will be served.

Some of Parker’s musician friends will also perform music. “We will intermittently sprinkle throughout the evening Christmas songs … between talks and discussion,” Parker said.

Copies of the book also will be available for sale.
