VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Lilley Woodbury Spencer, 91, passed away Jan. 30, 2011, in New Jersey. Born April 4, 1919 in Gates County, N.C., she lived most of her life in Virginia; however, she resided in Virginia Beach for 37 years before moving to New Jersey in 2006.
Mrs. Spencer was the daughter of the late Robert R. Howell and Mary Frances Howell and widow of Charles Edward Spencer. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Canter (husband Charles), of Indiana and Linda Sturm (husband Stephen), of New Jersey; four grandchildren, Douglas Carey (wife Sandy), of Tennessee, Wayne Carey (wife Tracie), of Tennessee, Sheila Renee Sturm, of New Jersey, Holly Richter (husband Brian), of New Jersey, three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Cammy Richter, of New Jersey, and David Carey, of Tennessee; four surviving sisters, Annie Mary Brinkley, of Virginia, Alease Neblett, of Virginia, Frances Crusenberry (husband Billy), of Florida, Margaret Roundtree, of Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk VA 23434, on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 from noon to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with interment in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Va.
