RICHMOND — Suffolk’s Scott Prillaman took the lead for good on lap 32 and motored on to the victory in the 50-lap Structural Mechanical Top Dog race, the featured event of Saturday’s Arena Racing Hampton Roads’ Pro Series at the Richmond Coliseum. The win was Prillaman’s first in a Top Dog race, and second overall, this season.

Josh Ayer and Justin Jones traded the lead in the opening laps before Ayer claimed it on lap 6. Prillaman, who started third, moved into second on lap 10. A caution flag on lap 22 brought Prillaman beside Ayer for the restart.

On the green flag, Ayer exercised his lane-choice option and went to the high side. Prillaman quickly made Ayer pay for his decision, powering into the lead. Derek Miller came along with Prillaman to take second.

Miller jostled for the lead with Prillaman over the next few laps, including another restart, and eased ahead on lap 28. Prillaman inched back out front on lap 32 and cleared Miller’s No. 50 machine off Turn 2 on lap 34.

Prillaman defended his lead through three more caution flags and restarts. On the final restart, on lap 47, with the field in single-file formation, Prillaman and Miller bolted nose-to-tail.

Miller pulled within inches of the leader’s rear bumper but couldn’t get close enough to rattle Prillaman’s cage as Prillaman held on to win by 0.259-second, about a car-length.

Jordan Wood, Travis Wall and Charlie Green made up the rest of the top five.

Ayer grabbed the lead on lap 37 and held on for his third feature victory in the 50-lap A Main. The win was his first in an A Main. Miller was runner-up and Prillaman finished third.

In the 50-lap B Main, Green powered out front on the 38th circuit and sailed to his sixth feature win of the season.

Jason Styron moved into the lead on the opening lap and showed the way to his first feature victory in the 50-lap C Main.

In the 30-lap Youth Series A Main, Cullen Roberts started on the pole and breezed to his second victory of the season.

In the 30-lap Youth Series B Main, Macy Causey moved out front on lap 13 and rolled to her very first feature victory.
