Junior guard Ransheda Jennings (King’s Fork) poured in 28 points to lead Chowan (5-8, 2-3 CIAA) in a 79-75 conference win at St. Augustine’s (10-4, 4-1 CIAA) Monday night.

Jennings made 18-of-23 foul shots on the night. She added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. The 5-foot-9 guard is leading CU in a number of stats, including points (15.5 per game), steals (3.1), assists (2.8) and blocks (0.6).

Chowan hosts Livingstone in another Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Maryland-Baltimore County’s men’s basketball team ended a 10-game home conference losing streak with a 71-67 win over Boston University Monday night.

Redshirt-freshman Jamar Wertz (King’s Fork) started at guard and scored nine points, all on three-pointers, for the Retrievers. Wertz is averaging 4.9 points per game and shooting 36.4 percent from three-point range.

The Retrievers (2-16, 1-4 America East) travel to face Hartford Thursday evening.

For the third game in two weeks Marquie Cooke (Nansemond River) decided the game one way or the other for Elizabeth City St. Monday night at CIAA opponent Shaw.

Cooke made two free throws with 2.8 seconds left to give the Vikings (9-4, 3-2) the winning margin for a 48-46 victory. Cooke finished with seven points, three rebounds and three steals on the night.

On Jan. 3, Cooke made two foul shots with eight seconds left to give ECSU a 78-76 win against the University of the District of Colombia. On Jan. 9, the junior guard missed a jump shot with six seconds left and Johnson C. Smith held on to a 77-75 win over ECSU.

Cooke graduated from Nansemond River in 2004. He went on to a scholarship and to play 27 games as a true freshman for Virginia Tech. After one year at VT, he transferred to Colorado St. but never played a game there.

Washington and Lee senior Brandon Wilder (Nansemond-Suffolk) won one event and finished second in another as the Generals (6-3) won a dual swim meet 150-102 at Gettysburg Saturday.

Wilder won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.55 and placed second in the 200 free (1:48.16). Senior Ryan Hanson (Nansemond-Suffolk) was in the 200 individual medley and on two relays for Washington and Lee.

Wilder and Hanson are two of the three seniors and team captains for the Generals, who have 26 swimmers on their roster.
