Both Nansemond-Suffolk swim teams swept Greenbrier Christian and Norfolk Christian in a three-team Tidewater Conference meet at the Suffolk Family YMCA Friday afternoon.

Kevin Joseph and Jeff Ruland won two individual events apiece to lead NSA’s boys team to a 70-20 win over Greenbrier Christian and a 74-20 win over Norfolk Christian.

Gabrielle Bishop won two races and the Lady Saints swept all three relays for equally easy wins; 71-22 over GCA and 61-33 over NCHS.

For NSA’s boys squad, the 2-0 day ran their winning streak to seven victories over the team’s last three meets.

Last weekend in Richmond the Saints (10-3) beat Cape Henry, usually a squad around the top of the Tidewater Conference, and host Trinity Episcopal. The Saints hadn’t topped Trinity in a meet in 10 years.

Joseph won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:34.85 and the 100 butterfly in 1:07.81.

Ruland won the 200 freestyle in 2:12.50 and the 100 backstroke in 1:07.85.

Will Riddick sprinted to the 50 free win in 27.46. Ben Wilson won the 100 freestyle in 1:03.08. Greg Beale won the 400 free in 5:21.74. The Saints claimed all but one individual event on the boys side.

Bishop won the 200 individual medley in 2:29.29, the fastest time of the meet boy or girl, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.38. Bishop’s won two individual state championships each of the last two seasons. She missed NSA’s first home meet of the season in December because she was at a junior national level meet.

Other Lady Saint event winners were Shannon McDonald in the 100 butterfly (1:04.03), Meredith Davis in the 100 freestyle (1:05.74) and Emily Neuburg in the 100 backstroke (1:14.24).

Davis, Taylor Berard, Neuburg and Bishop won the medley relay and teamed again to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Laura Wild, Katelyn McCracken, McDonald and Davis won the 400 freestlye relay.

Both Saint teams go on to a meet at rival Norfolk Academy Friday. NA’s meet will be an interesting test ahead of the conference championship meet as many TCIS schools will be in NA’s field.
