On Jan. 4, 2011 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Sarah Lee “Penny” Johnson, 65, of 321 N. Capital Street, entered into eternal rest. She was born on Jan. 25, 1945, to the late Sarah Savage and the late Isaac Sutton in Nansemond County.
A native of Suffolk, she attended Suffolk Public Schools and was employed, until her retirement, in the Sanitation Department with QVC Inc.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory the father of her children Wilmer Thomas Johnson; her children, Tyrone Johnson Sr. (Joyce), Thomas Lee Johnson and Maryland Wilkins and Vanessa Johnson; five grandchildren, Willie A. Savage, Teshawna Johnson (Quintell), Tierra Johnson (Kjuan), Latarevette Almond and Tyrone Johnson, Jr.; four great grandchildren; five brothers, James E. Brinkley (Gloria), James Wood, Alton Savage, Ronald Savage and Donald Savage; six sisters Ethel Rodgers (Jonnie), Juanita Miller, Darlene Gates, Connie Holliman (Robert), Debbie Gates and Della Council (Albert); an uncle, Willie Jordan; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ms. Johnson will be on view Friday, from 1 to 6 p.m., and the family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral will take place Saturday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m., at Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church, with interment immediately following in the T.E. Cooke- Overton Garden of Carver Memorial Cemetery. The procession will depart from the residence at 12:30 p.m.
