A Suffolk woman says her two pit bulls were shot after she let them outside Tuesday.

The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. on Meadow Country Road, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George. The woman said she let her dogs out to relieve themselves and soon heard two shots. Both dogs returned covered in blood.

One dog had only minor injuries, but the second suffered a broken back leg and severed tendon, George said.

The investigation is continuing, and no further information was available Wednesday afternoon.
