Sports tourneys delayed

The snowstorm caused local high school basketball tournaments to be pushed back to later in the week.

King’s Fork’s boys basketball squad is set to play in the 4th Annual Ronald Curry Christmas Classic in Hampton which was supposed to start Monday morning. The Classic has been moved to Wednesday-Friday.

The Bulldogs play Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot in the first round Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Hampton University Convocation Center.

The tourney includes 16 teams divided into two divisions. Tickets are $8 a day and $6 for students and are good for all eight games each day.

Lakeland’s game at First Colonial Monday evening was postponed. The Cavaliers are scheduled to play at Cox Tuesday at 1 p.m.

On the girls side, Lakeland and King’s Fork are in the Norcom Christmas Tournament which was set to start Monday but is now set for Tuesday-Thursday. Lakeland plays Norview in the first game of the 16-team tourney at 8 a.m. at Norcom High School. King’s Fork plays Kempsville at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Lakeland’s wrestling team is taking part in the Colon E. Baker Invitational at Great Bridge Tuesday and Wednesday.
