Rodgers makes double-double for GU

Georgetown sophomore Sugar Rodgers (King’s Fork) recorded her first double-double of the season in the Lady Hoyas’ 73-52 win over Coppin State Wednesday in Washington D.C.

Rodgers had a very busy ballgame with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals. The Lady Hoyas improve to a 10-3 record and are ranked No. 20 in the Associated Press Poll.

Georgetown travels to face Houston Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Sophomore guard Jaquon Parker (King’s Fork) got his first start of the season and helped Cincinnati to a 94-58 win over visiting St. Francis (Pa.) Thursday night.

Parker, a point guard for the Bearcats, had five points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. The Bearcats are 12-0 for the first time since the 2003-04 season.

Cincinnati opens its Big East schedule Tuesday night when DePaul visits the Bearcats.

Winthrop struggled with its most difficult road trip of its season last week. The Eagles lost 73-58 at Dayton Monday and 89-52 at Kentucky Wednesday afternoon.

Junior shooting guard Andre Jones (Nansemond River) started both games. He scored six points against the Flyers and zero points at UK. The Eagles and Wildcats played in front of 22,698 for the 1 p.m. tipoff at Rupp Arena.

For the season, Jones is averaging 11.4 points per game, good for second on the team, and is shooting 38.2 percent from three-point range.

Winthrop (5-7, 1-1) has a three-game Big South home stand starting Friday against Presbyterian. The Blue Hose (6-7, 1-1) have wins against Princeton, Auburn and Wake Forest this season. Presbyterian comes in off a 63-54 loss at Old Dominion Thursday night.

ODU improved to 9-2 overall with the win over the Blue Hose. Sophomore forward Nick Wright (Nansemond River) played 17 minutes, getting three rebounds and two blocks for the Monarchs.

ODU travels to play No. 10 Missouri (11-1) Thursday at 8 p.m.
