Suffolk Police are investigating a series of early-morning thefts of $2,300 worth of copper wire from business vehicles on Plummer Boulevard Tuesday.

An unknown number of suspects broke into five different work trucks on Plummer Boulevard — three owned by Lee Electrical, Inc., and two owned by MasTec.

According to city spokeswoman Debbie George, three different types of copper wire totaling about $1,200 in value were stolen from the Lee Electrical trucks.

The suspects also stole three 50-pound rolls of copper truck ground and one roll of ground wire from the MasTec trucks, George said. That wiring was worth about $1,100.

George said thefts of copper wire are popular because it can be sold at metal recycling facilities.
