Nansemond River drops local battle in S.C.

Norfolk Christian pulled away in the final three minutes for a 65-51 win over Nansemond River’s girls basketball squad at the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead in first 6:12 of play. Norfolk Christian answered with a 16-2 run and led the rest of the way. The Lady Ambassadors led 32-24 at halftime and by at least four points through the second half.

Nansemond River (5-2) cut a 10-point margin down to 54-49 with 3:32 remaining but Norfolk Christian (9-1) made the final run of the game down the stretch.

Latrice Hunter had 24 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for Norfolk Christian.

Junior center Lisa Sharpe led the Lady Warriors with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Sharpe averaged 16.7 points and 10 rebounds per game in the three tournament games.

Briana McClain scored 10 points and Ashante Humphries had nine points, six rebounds and three assists for the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Warriors went 1-2 for the trip. Nansemond River gets back into the Southeastern District schedule hosting Western Branch on
