Former Cav hurdles to victory

Hampton senior Predist Walker (Lakeland) won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.01 seconds for the Pirates at Kent State’s Golden Flash Gala indoor track meet Saturday in Kent, Ohio.
Walker’s win was one of three individual victories for the Pirates at the Gala.
Walker also finished fourth in the long jump with a best of 23-feet-2. Walker finished in the top seven of the hurdles, 60-meter dash and long jump the previous weekend at the Navy Invitational.
In men’s basketball action Saturday, Winthrop (5-5) beat visiting Jacksonville (6-2) 73-66 in a match-up of the defending Big South conference champ against the defending Atlantic Sun champion.
Junior guard Andre Jones (Nansemond River) scored 10 points for Winthrop including back-to-back field goals to boost the Eagle lead to 64-58 with just over four minutes remaining.
The Eagles are off through the rest of this week before a road trip to face Dayton and Kentucky on Dec. 20 and 22.
Wisconsin (8-2) edged Marquette (7-3) 69-64 Saturday in Milwaukee.
Freshman forward Davante Gardner (King’s Fork) played 18 minutes, most coming in the second half, getting nine points and three rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Marquette hosts Centenary Saturday.
Cincinnati rolled over visiting Utah Valley 92-72 on Saturday to remain undefeated, now 8-0.
Sophomore guard Jaquon Parker (King’s Fork) came off the bench to play 10 minutes and score three points for the Bearcats.
Cincinnati hosts Georgia Southern Tuesday night.
