Nansemond-Suffolk Academy did its part Friday night to qualify for the playoffs with a 44-0 win over Hampton Roads Academy to end the regular season.

The Saints’ (7-3, 4-1) post-season destiny will not be determined until the conclusion of regular season action for Potomac School and Flint Hill today.

Against the Navigators, NSA racked up 423 yards of total offense while limiting its opponent to 123.

“We prepare the same every week, and obviously the kids were more relaxed than they would be for somebody else, but, yeah, I thought we played well,” Saints head coach Lew Johnston said.

Of the 423 offensive yards, 362 of them came on the ground. Sophomore fullback David Gough continued to establish himself as a real star for Nansemond-Suffolk along with another sophomore.

“He and Addison Peak were the stars of the game — Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside,” Johnston said.

Gough had 10 carries for 143 yards and a score and Peak ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.

“Now that we got the fullback established, we’re certainly going to keep using him, and Addison gives us that speed on the outside,” Johnston said.

The NSA defense limited HRA junior running back Quincy Mock to 41 yards on 17 carries, which is 109 yards below his per-game average this year.

“We had a running clock the whole second half,” Johnston said. “We were up 37-0 at halftime.”

Saints senior quarterback Tim Burns was 4 for 9 passing for 61 yards, but also ran for a score. Junior offensive tackle Lee Willis had a rushing touchdown, and Michael Tyler Lepore returned a punt for a touchdown.

If Flint Hill (6-2, 3-0) defeats Potomac School (5-3, 1-1) this afternoon, Johnston said, it would likely be enough to put NSA into the post-season.
