Elder Jessie Lee Godwin Sr., 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Baltimore, Md. and the son of the late Clyde Godwin and Willie Alberta Robinson. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.

He attended Suffolk Public Schools. He retired from General Electric Company after 18 years of service. He was a member of Greater New Hope C.O.G.I.C.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Pearlie M. Godwin; one daughter, Barbara A. Thomas, of Norfolk, Va.; seven sons, Jessie L. Godwin Jr. (Bessie), of Suffolk, Terrence Eugene (Robin), of Norfolk, Ricky C. Godwin (Linda), Alexander Godwin (Mable), both of Suffolk, Darryl K. Godwin (Lisa), Samuel L. Godwin, both of Chesapeake, and Dana J. Godwin (Brenda), of Albany, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Shelia Elting and Cheryl Riddick; two sisters, the Rev. Shirley G. Brown and Irene Ellis; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries officiated by Dr. Viola Parker. Interment will be in Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery.
