The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts will host the iconic American vocal jazz group The Four Freshmen Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. for the area’s premier holiday concert.

The current Four Freshmen perform with that same unmistakable sound of the original group. They have strongly influenced many groups over the years, including Take Six, Manhattan Transfer and the Beach Boys. Some of the best jazz talents in the business, the new group — the 22nd incarnation of The Four Freshmen — not only preserves the Freshmen sound, they enhance it with their youth, vitality and talent giving a new treatment to the Great American Songbook. The group will perform original and traditional Christmas songs, as well as jazz and pop standards, at this show.

In their history of more than 60 years, The Four Freshmen have bragging rights to over 50 albums, an overwhelming 70 top-selling singles, and six Grammy nominations. The Freshmen enjoy a unique fan club offering the support of over 3,000 members across the United States, Europe, and Japan. Created in 1948 at Butler University, The Four Freshmen are the longest-lasting vocal harmony group of all time.

The original group included Bob Flanigan, Don Barbour, Ross Barbour and Hal Kratzsch and is best-known for their hits Blue World, Graduation Day, and Poinciana. Flanigan and Barbour are still actively involved with The Four Freshmen today.
