Georgetown sophomore Sugar Rodgers (King’s Fork) led the Lady Hoyas with 28 points and won the Paradise Jam MVP award as No. 12 GU beat No. 4 Tennessee 69-58 Saturday in the championship game of the tournament in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Rodgers hit 5-of-7 three-pointers to go with four rebounds and three steals as Georgetown cruised by the Lady Volunteers. The Lady Hoyas held a double-digit lead through the last 14:18 of play.

“I’m really happy, but I think it’s even better that we had all 13 players play tonight. We played as a team and that helped us win,” Rodgers said.

Georgetown beat Georgia Tech 67-58 Thursday and lost to Missouri 54-45 Friday. The Lady Hoyas (5-1) host Richmond Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C.

Rodgers, a 5-foot-11 guard, is averaging 16.0 points and 2.5 steals per game.

Cincinnati crushed local rival Dayton 68-34 Saturday night in Cincinnati. The Bearcats (5-0) held Dayton to 20 percent field-goal shooting for the game. UC led 56-19 with 14:28 remaining in the game.

Sophomore point guard Jaquon Parker (King’s Fork) played 19 minutes off the bench for the Bearcats. Parker’s averaging 13.2 minutes, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 points a game.

Cincinnati hosts Wright State Wednesday evening.

Elizabeth City State won the Lake Shore Classic in Gary, Ind. with victories Friday and Saturday.

The Vikings (4-0) beat Fisk 89-50 and Claflin 67-46. Junior starting point guard Marquie Cooke (Nansemond River) had four points, six assists and four steals vs. Fisk. Cooke had 10 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes vs. Claflin.

ECSU travels again this coming weekend to a two-day tournament in Wilberforce, Ohio.
