More than $4,000 in prize money will be up for grabs today, as Langley Speedway puts the wraps on its 2012 campaign with one of the season’s most eagerly anticipated events, the seventh annual “Day of Destruction.”
Ten spine-tingling novelty events make up Saturday afternoon’s lineup: a 50-lap Enduro ($1,000 to win); a Reverse Race ($200 to win); a Bag Race ($200 to win); an Appliance Race ($300 to win); a Flag Pole Race ($200 to win); a Train Race ($200 to win); Import and Domestic Demolition Derbies ($500 to win each); plus, Tug of War and Burnout competitions ($100 to win each).
For fans who prefer their motorized mayhem in a more conventional format, Martinsville Speedway is the place to be this weekend as the historic venue plays host to the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 300, the “Super Bowl” of NASCAR Late Model Stock Car racing.
Four Langley Speedway regulars appear on the entry list posted on Martinsville’s website — C.E. Falk, Wes Falk, Mark Wertz and Terry Carroll. Other entrants include 2012 Hampton Heat 200 winner Matt Bowling, 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champ Lee Pulliam and four-time national champ Philip Morris.
