Shirley T. Hicks Massenburg, 68 of 1183 Cogic Square, Suffolk, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was a native of Southampton County, and the daughter of Fannie Bell Jordan Hicks and the late Joe Billy Hicks.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Leo Flythe.

She retired from Gwaltney of Smithfield. She was a member of Gates of Heaven Church of God in Christ.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Larry Massenburg; one daughter, Helen Hicks of Suffolk; three sons, Renzo Hicks and Eric Flythe, both of Suffolk, and Donnie Hicks of Hampton; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; five sisters, Marie Person (Earl) of Courtland, Margie Harden of Baltimore, Md., Gloria Stith of Cape Charles and Mary Waters and Priscilla Mills (Dwight), both of Suffolk; four brothers, Robert Harden, Jr. (Elaine) of Smithfield, Alex Stith of Cape Charles and L. C. Harden (Jackie) and Dennis Harden (Annie), both of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday at Gates of Heaven C.O.G.I.C., officiated by the Rev. Thomas Harden Jr. Interment will be at Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at 1183 Cogic Square, Suffolk, and will assemble there at noon for the procession to the church.
