The Norfolk office of the FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a man they believe has robbed at least five banks in the area since July.

The Bank of Hampton Roads, located at 2825 Godwin Boulevard, which was robbed on Nov. 5 by a man wearing a red stocking cap and carrying a handgun, was the most recent of the robberies, which law enforcement officials believe are connected.

Other robberies have taken place at Monarch Bank, BB&T and Bank of Hampton Roads branches in Virginia Beach and at a Wachovia Branch on Portsmouth Boulevard in Chesapeake.

The Monarch Bank robbery took place July 22, the BB&T robbery on Sept. 7, the Virginia Beach Bank of Hampton Roads robbery on Sept. 27 and the Wachovia Bank robbery on Sept. 29.

The subject is described as a white male in his late 30s to mid 40s, between 5’10” and 6’, weighing about 170 pounds and sporting dark hair and slight facial hair or a goatee.

Investigators believe the suspect might live in North Carolina, according to a FBI press release. They warned that the man should be considered armed and extremely dangerous and said members of the public should not attempt to approach or apprehend him.
