A Suffolk mother who allegedly stabbed her teenage daughter while she slept in January was served with indictments this week after the grand jury decided there is enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Rhonda Hingerty, 41 at the time of the incident, was indicted on counts of malicious wounding and stabbing in the commission of a felony.

A city spokeswoman said at the time Hingerty allegedly stabbed her daughter “multiple times in the back” while she slept about 1:30 a.m. Jan. 24 at their home in the 4200 block of Pruden Blvd.

Hingerty then turned the knife on herself. She was treated and released at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for multiple stab wounds. Her daughter, however, was admitted to the hospital for treatment of her serious but non-life threatening injuries.
