The Stronger Woman hosted its first charity slow-pitch, co-ed softball tournament, on Oct. 23 in Franklin, to raise money for the Southampton Storm Fast-pitch travel teams and its own organization.

The Stronger Woman is a non-profit organization founded in 2009. Steph Wood, president and CEO of the organization, dealt with many adversities as a child and is creating an organization focusing on girls and women. Her mission is to inspire females of all ages to develop permanent mental, emotional, physical and spiritual strength through athletic competition and camps as well as motivational speaking and mentoring programs.

The Southampton Storm started this year with two fast-pitch softball squads, 12-and-under and 14-and-under. The Storm teams have played in several tournaments this fall, competing against teams from the Richmond area and North Carolina.

Six teams played in the tournament, All First, Hunterdale, Repair Tech, Sporty Cuts, Undertakers and a parent/friend team representing the Storm.

The Undertakers, from Ahoskie, N.C. defeated All First, from Tidewater, in the championship game.

Storm players and parents volunteered their time at the concession stand and selling raffle tickets. Ronnie Wade, of Ivor, donated his umpiring skills for the day.
