King’s Fork finishes 2-1 on N.Y. trip

The Bulldogs (7-2) finished third out of eight schools in the National Division of the 2009 STOP DWI Holiday Classic with an easy victory over South Laurel of London, Ky.
Davante Gardner scored eight points during a 12-3 King’s Fork run early in the second quarter. The run took KF’s lead to 29-16 and the Bulldogs led comfortably the rest of the way.
Jay Copeland threw down a pair of dunks late in the second period and KF took a 37-24 lead to the half.
Gardner finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Copeland had a double-double as well with 14 points and 10 boards. Gardner, KF’s 6-foot-8 senior center, was named to the National Division’s All-Star Team for the tournament.
The Bulldogs defeated Binghamton 65-30 on Monday and lost against Christ the King (N.Y.) 56-40 on Tuesday.
King’s Fork hosts Great Bridge on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Southeastern District.

At Rockingham Co., N.C.
The Warriors (4-4) won the consolation game of the Rockingham County High School Invitational after falling in overtime in their first game.
Ashton Moore totaled 25 points, four assists and four steals. NR’s point guard had 45 points for the tournament. Morris Johnson made it back-to-back double-doubles with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Nansemond River will take on Kellam Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lake Taylor in the Virginia Preps Basketball Invitational.
