The Nansemond River field hockey team made sure Indian River did not come back this time, defeating the visiting Lady Braves 5-0 on Wednesday evening.
Lady Warriors coach Ali Mowry said her team took winning for granted against Indian River last year. This year, they held a 1-0 lead at halftime, just like before, and Mowry reminded her team of it.
“I wanted to make sure that they had a little fire in them so (they’d) come out strong that second half,” she said.
For Nansemond River, Sarah Lanthorn scored twice and had an assist, and Kimberly Bates, Amber Daubenspeck and Shelbi Holloman had goals as well.
The Lady Warriors (3-5-2, 3-2-0) host Grafton tonight.
