Nansemond-Suffolk Academy has announced the appointment of Randolph Davis as the interim head basketball coach for the boys’ varsity team for the 2012-‘13 season, replacing Clint Wright who had served in that position for the past two seasons.

Wright has taken the position of head coach for the Lakeland High School boys’ varsity team.

Davis has taught and coached at NSA since 1978, most recently serving as the history department chair in the Upper School. He was NSA’s head varsity boys’ basketball coach from 1982 to 1986 and has also coached the junior varsity and the junior JV boys’ teams during his tenure at NSA.

He served as the director of boys’ athletics from 1987 to 2007 and has held other leadership roles at the academy, including director of student activities.

During his career at NSA, Davis has also coached football, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, volleyball, cross country and golf.

Davis has also represented NSA at the state level by serving on the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association State Basketball Committee.

He played high school and college basketball and served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Virginia Wesleyan College for three years after graduating from Virginia Wesleyan in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences. He received his master’s degree in recreation administration from Western Kentucky University in 1978.
