Brenda Gwendolyn (Burma) Parker Miller was the third child born to the late Christopher and Florence Parker. She began her earthly journey on Jan. 13, 1955 in Suffolk, Va. The Lord called her home on Friday, Oct. 15, 2010.
Brenda graduated from Suffolk High School in 1973 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she was stationed at Fort Seal, Okla. She later joined the District of Columbia National Guard.
She was employed as a branch secretary for the Internal Revenue Service for four years.
Brenda is survived by a daughter, Joy Shavonne Miller; a stepmother, Linnie Pearl Parker; a step-grandmother, Frances Whitehead; seven sisters: Jacqueline (Jackie) Rawlings, Jessica Parker, Diane Roberts, Marcella Brooks, Patricia Parker, Yolanda Parker and Bridget Dreuitt; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ms. Miller’s visitation will be held at the funeral home, Friday Oct. 22 from noon to 7 p.m. A service of remembrance will be hosted at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
