Officials announced about 47 new jobs coming to the city of Suffolk during the City Council retreat Wednesday morning.

Coffee company Continental Terminals will expand its operations by purchasing a new facility at 1394 Progress Road in Wilroy Industrial Park, according to a press release from the city. The $2.7 million facility will be used for administration, sample roasting, sorting, storage and custom blending and bring about 35 jobs by 2016, according to the release.

The company is ideally situated to supply coffee beans for existing roasters Massimo Zanetti and the J.M. Smucker Co., both located in the same industrial park. The company also plans to partner with Green Mountain Coffee in Isle of Wight County, according to the release.

In addition, Trans-Ocean will bring its manufacturing operations from Asia to Suffolk.

The facility in the Suffolk Industrial Park will relocate laminating, laser cutting, stuffing pillows and other types of sewing operations. The Suffolk site has served as a distribution center for rugs, pillows and home accessories for the past 12 years.

The $1.1 million investment will reduce imports and create 12 new jobs, according to a release from the city.
