SMITHFIELD, Va. — Jesse Vernon Oliver Jr., 75, of Smithfield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Ruby and Jesse Vernon Oliver Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carroll Oliver, and his brother, James Norman Oliver. Mr. Oliver was a member of Whiteheads Grove Baptist Church. He was a member of the Alumni Association of Hargrave Military Academy and a U.S. Army Veteran.

Mr. Oliver is survived by his son, Jesse Vernon Oliver III and wife, Lindsay, of Smithfield, sister, Jane Oliver Bailey, of Longview, and brother, Raymond Edward Oliver, of Richmond, Va. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Addison Oliver, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at Whiteheads Grove Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Russell Leonard on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W.
