The Isle of Wight County Fair Committee reported on Monday that the 2012 Isle of Wight County Fair was a huge success, with admission numbers reflecting record-breaking days for Wednesday’s Seafood Fest, Thursday Night’s Car Load Special and Sunday’s general admission.

The overall admission report for the entire event also breaks an overall record for the fair with a guest count of 33,732.

The Isle of Wight County Fair had been one of the fastest growing midsize fairs in the state until last year, which included a weather-related washout on opening night. In 2011, the rain continued on and off for the duration of the four-day event.

The Isle of Wight Fair is no longer considered a midsize fair. According to the Virginia Association of Fairs’ description of categories for fairs, the Isle of Wight County Fair has just been upgraded to a large fair based on the admission count of 30,001 guests or more.

“Everything came together this year — great leadership, an experienced fair committee, community support, county support, top-of-the line national entertainment and one of the most important elements — perfect weather,” Fair Coordinator Darlene Keyt said. “The vendors and guests love the Isle of Wight County Fairground, and the customer service and friendliness of the staff and volunteers is exceptional.”
