Horace Sawyer, 80, of 1921 Carolina Road, Suffolk, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation Healthcare Center. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Lynwood and Cfroney Milteer Sawyer. He was predeceased by his wife, Mattie Jane Sawyer.

He was formerly employed at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital as a dietician for 15 years. He retired as a self-employed painter. He was a member of Capernaum SDA Church and served as a deacon for many years. He was a member of the Mt. Ararat Missionary Lodge No. 1.

He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Quay A. Sawyer of Suffolk; one son, Bobby Sawyer (Denita) of Suffolk; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; six sisters, Florine Skeeter, Evelena Britt, Janette Hopson (William), Mary Lee Twine, Geraldine Fulgham (James) all of Suffolk, and Laura A. White of Ossining, NY; one brother, James Sawyer of Suffolk; and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday in Capernaum SDA Church, 314 York St., officiated by Elder James Reid. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2227 Airport Road in Suffolk.
