Raytheon set to close

A Raytheon modeling and simulation facility in North Suffolk will close by the end of the year, a company spokesman confirmed Thursday.
The facility is located in the same commerce park and performs the same kind of work as Boeing, which announced its closure last month. The Raytheon location opened in 2006.
“I can confirm that as part of a facility review, we decided not to renew our lease there at the Suffolk location,” said Dave Desilets, manager of public relations for Raytheon Network Centric Systems.
The lease expires Dec. 31 at the Netcentric Integration and Experimentation Center, which works with customers and industry partners to model product concepts and solutions to problems. Four people are employed there.
“We’re looking at options elsewhere in the company for them,” Desilets said of the employees. “We still will be operating our main NIEC in Arlington, Va.”
Desilets wouldn’t comment on any relation to the proposed closure of the U.S. Joint Forces Command, a branch of a military installation down the street with about 2,200 employees. The command’s headquarters is in Norfolk.
“The facility review is one that looks at the needs of our customers and our company,” he said.
