City Manager Selena Cuffee-Glenn’s work has been recognized by a national organization of her peers.

Cuffee-Glenn has been tapped to receive a 2010 Distinguished Public Service Award from the Conference of Minority Public Administrators. The award will be presented at a Hampton Roads chapter conference today in Williamsburg.

Award recipients were selected based on a track record of public service strengthening families and communities, a commitment to the professionalism and sensitivity of public service that effects change in the community, dedicated leadership, creativity and integrity, according to a city press release.

Cuffee-Glenn became the city’s first black and first female city manager in 2008. She had previously served as deputy city manager and began her tenure in Suffolk in 2005 as assistant city manager for development.

According to its website, the Conference of Minority Public Administrators seeks to advance public administration by providing leadership in the elimination of discriminatory practices against all minorities. Founded in 1971, the organization was established as a section of the American Society of Public Administration in 1977.
