A Suffolk man has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after an incident in a Virginia Beach nightclub early Saturday.

Lennell Darrell Skeeter, 23, of the 600 block of Cummings Drive, is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center with no bond.

According to Virginia Beach police, emergency communications received a call about 12:50 a.m. to the Royale Blue Night Club located at 800 Baker Road. Police and emergency medical services responded to the club and found an unconscious man, identified as Samuel Dawkins, 30, of the 1200 block of Glyndon Drive in Virginia Beach.

The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators learned the victim was with friends on the dance floor when the suspect allegedly approached the victim and struck him in the head with an alcohol bottle, according to police. The victim fell to the floor, and efforts to resuscitate him had been unsuccessful.

The case remains under investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Detective Bureau.
