The Rev. Dr. J. Rayfield Vines Jr., of Glen Allen, Va., transitioned from this earthly life on Aug. 25, 2012. He was a native of Suffolk, Va., and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He was the son of the late J. Rayfield and Daisy Edwards Vines and the grandson of the late Etta Vines (midwife). He was predeceased by two brothers, Calvin and Felton Vines.

He was pastor at Hungary Road Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Gloria Vines; two daughters, Erika Powell (Odist) and Niani Vines; a son, J. Rayfield Vines III; one sister, Vivian Vines Turner; one brother, Lloyd E. Vines (Jackie); five grandchildren; and two special cousins, Tomasina Tillery and Vernetta Grant; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Tabernacle Christian Church, 2500 E. Washington St., Suffolk, on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 211 Fendall Ave., Richmond, Va., on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk, Va. The family will receive visitors at his sister’s home at 1203 FDR Court, Suffolk.
