God has turned the sunset for Darrell Tyrone Smith into a sunrise, and Darrell safely crossed from earth into eternity on Sept. 26, 2010. Darrell was affectionately known as “P. Town” and “Shaboom.” He was born on Feb. 8, 1967 to Mamie Almond Smith and the late John Henry Smith Jr.

Darrell attended John Yeates High School, where he played in the band. He was very loving, smart, funny and a people person.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Ponder and Benjamin Smith.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Andre Young; mother, Mamie A. Smith; brother, John H. Smith III; four sisters, Betty S. Hamilton, Thelma Almond Brown, Vernell Smith and Mamie Vaughan; three aunts, Lillie Carroll, Flossie Tucker and Louis Almond; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1. The family will receive visitors at 6898 Crittenden Road at all other times. A service of celebration will take place at noon Saturday, Oct. 2 at Diamond Grove Baptist Church, and he will be laid to rest at Jones Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
