A woman police have been seeking since Saturday turned herself in at police headquarters Wednesday morning.

Alivia Patrise Burrus was wanted in Suffolk on charges of escape from custody, providing false identification to police, petit larceny, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. Virginia State Police also have warrants on her for grand larceny and hit and run.

Suffolk police received a notification from Virginia State Police around 9:30 a.m. Saturday regarding a stolen vehicle that may have been headed toward Suffolk, according to a press release from the city. That afternoon, a Suffolk officer spotted the vehicle in the 1300 block of White Marsh Road.

The vehicle had been involved in an accident earlier in the day, according to the press release.

Two subjects located in the vehicle were detained, and the male complained of heat exhaustion. As medics were responding to the scene to treat him, the woman allegedly escaped into the nearby woods.

At the time of her escape, she was wearing blue handcuffs, but managed to get them off. Police later recovered them with the assistance of police dogs but were unable to track her down.
