SUFFOLK — Virginia Lee Nurney Harlow, of Suffolk, Va., was born on July 19, 1927, and passed away peacefully on Aug. 14, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Virginia Tourtellot Nurney and Jack W. Nurney.

Virginia graduated from Suffolk High School in 1941 and Mary Baldwin College in 1945. She married John Price Harlow Jr. on Sept. 22, 1951, and was married for 61 wonderful years. Virginia was a member of Glebe Episcopal Church, where she served numerous years on the church vestry and several terms as senior warden. She was a Master Gardener and third-generation president of the Nansemond River Garden Club. She also served as third-generation president of the Driver Book Club and was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, John P. Harlow Jr.; her brother, Jack W. Nurney Jr. and his wife Ann; three sons and their wives, Bruce and Cecilia Harlow, David and Brenda Harlow, and John and Vicki Harlow. Virginia had two nieces, Ann Davies and Susan Griffin, and a nephew, William Nurney. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Meredith, Annalee, Bruce, Laine, Jonathan, Judith, Anne Gray, Elizabeth and Genevieve; and six great-grandchildren: Elijah, Alexis, Aiden, Harlow, Grace and Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Glebe Episcopal Church in Suffolk, Va. The family will receive visitors on Friday, Aug. 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Baker-Foster Funeral Home Bennett’s Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, Va.
