Suffolk’s Gerry Jones and Rebecca Hutchings participated in the sixth Virginia State Golf Association Youth Championship, which concluded Thursday at Independence Golf Club.

The event included 62 boys and girls, ages 13 and under.

Jones, competing in the boys’ 10-11 age bracket, scored an 89-86—175 to wind up in the middle of his division.

Eleven-year-old Christopher Zhang of Blacksburg returned his second straight round of 75 and won the closely-contested bracket by one stroke. Patrick Gareiss, 11, of Chesapeake was second with a 151 total, while Drew Brockwell, 11, of Chesterfield carded an age division-best 74 on Thursday to place third with a total of 152.

Hutchings was one of two girls competing in the 9-and-under bracket, scoring 107-99—206. Lauren Clark of Chesterfield won that division with a score of 75-94—169.
