SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Miriam (Mimi) Barron Kurbjun, 82, passed away Sept. 4, 2010 in Summerville, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Esther Bernhardt Barron and N. Thomas Barron, of Franklin, Va., where Mr. Barron was employed as a forester for Union Camp. She graduated from Greensboro College with a degree in music. Mrs. Kurbjun taught band and choir in the North Carolina public school system and later directed the choir of St. Philip Lutheran Church in Roanoke, Va. She was the owner of The Craftiques, Inc., a needlework shop in Hollins, Va., for 18 years before retiring to Summerville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Kurbjun Jr., of Richmond, Va., a commercial pilot.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen B. Knick and Joseph H. Knick, of Augusta, Ga., Nancy K. Ward and Dr. John W. Ward, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., grandchildren, Joseph E. and Karl W. Knick, of Augusta, Ga., Kathleen E. and William R. Wheatley, of Williamsburg, Va., and brother, Walt W. Barron, of Gunnison, Colo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to ETV Endowment of S.C., S.C. Public Radio, or a favorite charity.

Services will be private, but the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at the home of Mrs. Kurbjun in Summerville, S.C.
