An event in Franklin this month will collect canned goods to help feed kids throughout the region, as well as give out free school supplies and hygiene products.
The Cover 3 Community Day by the Cover 3 Foundation also will provide health care information and have a DJ and bounce houses, according to founder Greg Scott, a retired NFL defensive lineman.
“It’s just going to be a great day,” he said. “It’s going to be wonderful.”
Children are asked to bring four canned goods as admission to play in the bounce houses for four hours. The food will help C3F’s meals program, which feeds about 4,000 kids daily in after-school programs in Suffolk, Franklin, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Emporia and other areas.
“We try to touch a lot of areas,” he said. “Some of these kids aren’t getting that nutritious meal at home. This puts a little something in their stomach before they go home.”
The hygiene products will be supplied by feedthechildren.org, and Smart Beginnings also will be available to talk to families about children’s development.
The community day is presented by Walmart, Space Walk of Suffolk and Comfort Inn of Franklin. It will be held at the Franklin Walmart, 1500 Armory Drive, on Aug. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. It is open to the public.
