Former Lakeland softball player Chelsea Speight has been selected to compete in the Queen of the Diamonds Showcase South at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C. Sept. 3-5.

Speight, now a junior at Southampton Academy and a pitcher/second baseman on the diamond, was one of 264 players selected from over 2,000 applicants to the showcase. Speight plays travel softball for Galaxy Fastpitch 18-and-under, a club based out of Chuckatuck.

The Queen of the Diamonds Showcase selects athletes who apply to be in the event. Players are chosen based on many criteria, ranging from ability, potential, academics, graduation year, coaches’ requests and referrals.
