The families of L. Michelle Brown and Steven W. Haley have announced their engagement.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Charlie Brooks and the late Sandra Brown, and the granddaughter of the late Ernestine Cowling Brown of Suffolk.

A 1992 graduate of Norfolk State University, she is employed by AT&T.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Janice Haley, the groom-elect is also a 1992 graduate of Norfolk State University.

An Oct. 9 wedding is planned.

The couple will reside in the Greater Washington, D.C. area.
