Irving Duck

Irving Daughtrey Duck, 89, died Oct. 5, 2008, at his home.
Born in Isle of Wight County, Va., he was the son of the late Crawley and Bessie A. Duck, widower of Etta Wright Duck and brother of the late Mary Elizabeth Moore, Margaret Sue Duck, William C. Duck, Glaspa Duck, and Garland Duck. Mr. Duck was a member of First Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons for 35 years, was elected Lifetime Deacon in 1993, was a former Sunday school teacher for the young people for 25 years, a greeter and usher for more than 50 years, bus driver for 20 years, and member of many different committees. He was a charter member of the Suffolk Chapter No. 4030 of the AARP and a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his daughters, Patsy Murphy, of Cumming, Ga., Christine Moon and husband, Sam, of Franklin, Va.; grandchildren, Kathy Sumpter, of Cumming, Ga., Nancy Lynn Duck, of Carrsville and Robin Elizabeth Davis, of Suffolk.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Thompson and the Rev. John Watson with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral & Crematory on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 237 N.
