James Butts

SUFFOLK — James “Jimmy” Miles Butts, 84, of the 100 block of Dover Court, Suffolk, passed away on Nov. 10, 2008. A native of Haverstraw, N.Y., he was son of the late Robert H. and Mary Brown Butts and the widower of Evelyn H. Butts.
Mr. Butts was retired as a self-employed Brick Mason after 49 years. He was a member and Deacon of United Holiness Church. He was a lead singer with the Southern Humming Birds for 49 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, James R. Butts (Barbara), of Suffolk, and Calvin A. Butts (Pearl), of Fayetteville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Carolyn J. Simpson and Emogene Bennett; and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 at Faith Temple Apostolic Church, 476 Wellons St., officiated by Pastor Linwood Gilchrist. A Christian wake service will be held Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of his granddaughter, Voncier Butts, 2372 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk.
