SUFFOLK – James Andrew Chapman, of 5409 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 in Sentara Obici Hospital. A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Lynwood Mann Chapman. He was predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Willie L. Towns Sr., John W. Scott Sr., and Ryland M. Myrick Jr.
He was employed for 44 years at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a machinist. He was a member of Abundant Harvest Outreach Ministries in Franklin, Va.
He leaves to cherish his memories a special adopted daughter, Sabrina Steward, of Norfolk, Va.; one son, James H. Hill, of Norfolk, Va.; five sisters, Rosa M. Harris (Elbert), of Portsmouth, Va., Flora E. Chapman, Daisy V. Towns (caregiver), Gwen E. Strickland (Larry), all of Suffolk, and Elder Joyce Chapman-Myrick, of Franklin, Va.; a devoted aunt, Patience E. Porter, of Suffolk, a special friend and caregiver, Carolyn Hill; special friends, William Powell and Walter L. Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 at Little Bethel Baptist Church, 6533 Everetts Road, in Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Ronald Goodwin. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at 5409 Godwin Blvd. in Suffolk. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
