David Lee Elam, 53, of 404 Fuller St., Suffolk, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Sarah Elam and the late Reginald Elam Sr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Moore and brother, Reginald M. Elam Jr.

He attended John F. Kennedy High School. He retired as an insulator with the Newport News Shipyard and Norfolk Naval Yard. He served as a lifeguard with the Cypress Community Pool in the Hollywood section of Suffolk.

Besides his mother, Sarah Elam, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Renee Elam, of Portsmouth; two daughters, Shenna Grant (Michael), of Portsmouth, and Alia Dahl (Milton), of Fredrick, Md.; four sisters, Brenda Scott (Ricky), Laverne Johnson (David), Sarah Haley (Michael), all of Suffolk, and Linda Holland (James), of Carrsville, Va.; five brothers, Larry Elam (Verona), of Chesapeake, Calvin Elam (Cynthia), of Newport News, Va., James Elam (Gloria), of Portsmouth, Ernest Elam (Angela) and Eric Elam (Robin), both of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Michael, Mikiyah, Gabriel, Elijah; one aunt, Gracie Waters (Thomas); uncle, Robert Lee Phillip; mother-in-law, Rosa Granderson; father-in-law, David Faulk; sisters-in-law, Theresa Faulk and Neicey Cross; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, July 2, 2012, at Union Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Evangelist Verona Elam. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
