Charlie Dales Jr.

Charlie Dales Jr., 47, a native of Norfolk, born Feb. 2, 1962, died April 28, 2009, at his home, 201 Deanes Station Road, Suffolk.
Mr. Dales was the oldest son of Charlie Graham (deceased) and Doretha Dales-Staten, of Norfolk. He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk. He entered the Coast Guard in 1979, where he served more than nine years before being discharged.
During his service in the Coast Guard, he obtained many certificates and certifications in electrical engineering. He furthered his education and obtained a B.S. in electrical engineering. He later moved to New Jersey where he began his career in electrical engineering.
He was employed as an electrical engineer with Sara Lee Corporation for five years and had a desire to become a general contractor. He started a general contracting business known as Diamond Contractor LLC.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved mother, Doretha Dales-Staten; two daughters, Dimitra Dales Myrick (Jonathan) and Stephanie Dales Barnes (Sean), both of Suffolk; two sons, Ronald Myers, of New Jersey, and Charlie Dales III, of North Carolina; grandson, Dorian “Buddy” Barnes, of Suffolk; three brothers, Michael Dales (Sherry), of Chesapeake, William Mack Dales and Calvin Lee Dales, of Norfolk.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at Tabernacle Christian Church, Suffolk, with Dr. Carlton Upton Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Wyatt & Sons Funeral Home Inc., Suffolk.
He will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service Monday.
Family and friends will assemble at 201 Deanes Station Road at 11 a.m. the day of service.
